It was somewhere around Barstow...

TUESDAY - 12th June

Our time in Los Angeles was up. Time to head off for the glittering desert oasis of Las Vegas.

The drive took 4 hours, along the freeway, through many a mountain pass.

Our plan was to stop in Barstow for lunch. Which worked in theory...

But we failed to heed the lonely old man sitting on the steps of the Town Hall  and the almost empty, boiling hot streets. Oblivious, walked over to a cafe. When we got there, it turned out to be a very weird cafe. A glance in the window showed a group of people sitting around in a circle, who all looked in our direction in a very robotic way.

Needless to say we skipped town with a squeal of tyres and decided not to stop until we reached Las Vegas, and out hotel, the Luxor.

I thought it was just the Luxor, but it turned out to be all the hotel/casinos we visited, but they seemed to pump a weird coconut/incense type fragrance throughout the hotel. An explanation for this could be that they wanted to mask the the smell of cigarette smoke (smoking indoors is legal in Vegas as they obviously want to keep people gambling) but I think it is to mask the stench of despair and bankruptcy!

As we had to get up early the following day for a tour of the surrounding desert and Area 51 (!), we partook of the Buffet which was delicious and plentiful, then went to bed.

I will be doing a separate post about Area 51 as I want to sink my teeth into it, so the next post will be by Lindsay, as she covers the other things we got up to while in Sin City!
